Theme: Towards Digital Earth

The world’s first symposium on Digital Earth was hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), on which the 1999 Beijing Declaration on Digital Earth was released.

ISDE is an international academic organization promoting academic exchange, science and technology innovation, education, and international collaboration towards Digital Earth.

2006

The first ISDE Executive Committee consisted of 23 experts and scholars from over 10 countries and international organizations, such as Canada, the USA, Japan, and others.

Theme: Digital Earth Summit on Sustainability

2008

The first peer-reviewed international journal published by ISDE and Taylor & Francis Group, focusing on the theories, technologies and applications of Digital Earth.

Beijing, China

Theme: Digital Earth in Action

The 2009 Beijing Declaration on Digital Earth was released.

Washington, USA

ISDE was admitted to GEO, an intergovernmental organization then comprising 83 countries and 58 international academic organizations.

2011

With two papers: "Digital Earth 2020: towards the vision for the next decade" published in IJDE (2011) and "Next-generation Digital Earth" in PNAS (2012).

2017

Taipei, China

ISDE was admitted to ICSU (now ISC) as an official member on the ICSU 32nd plenary meeting.

Sydney, Australia

ISDE-DBRAlliance was established to boost scientific and technological exchanges and collaborations with countries and institutions along the Belt and Road.

2017

The world’s first open-access big data journal in the Earth sciences published by ISDE and Taylor & Francis Group.

2019

ISDE became a member of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management - Geospatial Societies (UNGGIM-GS).

Theme: Digital Earth in a Transformed Society

The 2019 Florence Declaration on Digital Earth was released.

The first scientific book of Digital Earth published by ISDE and Springer.

A series of online events held every two months, featuring well-known international experts in the Digital Earth field.

With the aim of empowering young scientists in the Digital Earth field, ISDE-YSIN organizes the Youth Innovation Forum on Digital Earth series annually, and the ISDE - Lecture on the Digital Earth Youth Innovation quarterly each year.
