Dr. Chhetri accomplished Post Doctorate Research Study from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, Australia in 2011. Dr. Chhetri earned his doctorate in Economics from the University of Vienna, Austria in 1995. He also holds an MA and Law degree. He carried out a Drug Abuse Prevention Research Study at the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, U.S.A. from 2002 to 2003. He attended the Pandemic Disaster Preparedness Training Course at QUT from August 24 to November 29, 2008. He also participated in a fellowship program on “Developing a Framework for Inclusive Disaster Management in Nepal,” held from February to March 2017 at QUT, Brisbane, Australia.
Dr. Chhetri was awarded AEI Australia Alumni Excellence Awards 2014, by the Government of Australia. He also got the QUT Impact Stories Award in 2017 & 2018 from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). He was appointed as the Endeavor Ambassador from the Australian High Commission, New Delhi in February 2018. He was awarded the "DPNet-Nepal Award 2014" by the Government of Nepal in 2014 in recognition to his significant contribution in the field of DRR. He is decorated with various prestigious National Medals like: Janpad Sewa Padak 1991, Mahendra Vidhya Bhusan Padak 1996, Prabal Gorkha Dakshin Bahu 1998, Gaddi Arohan Rajat Padak 2001, Daibi Prakopoddhar Padak in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. Dr. Chhetri authored two books and published a number of research articles in national and international journals.
