The 9th ISDE International Lectures

ISDE International Lectures, organized by the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) are a series of online events which feature invited lectures by well-known international experts in the field of Digital Earth. The event will invite speakers to give lectures every two months. The purpose of the events is to bring international scholars in the relevant research fields of Digital Earth together to exchange academic perspectives, share research results, and disseminate the most cutting-edge and authoritative concept of Digital Earth.

 

The 9th ISDE International Lectures

The 9th ISDE International Lectures, with the theme of “Scientific Model Sharing for the Digital Earth”, will invite three speakers to provide their perspectives on the big earth data analytics, open model sharing, and model sharing facilities.

Short Bio of Invited Speakers:

Stefano Nativi

National Research Council of Italy

Stefano Nativi works for the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), where he was head of a research unit on geospatial information science, for over 10 years. He is currently seconded to the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union, in Brussels (Belgium), as scientific attaché for digital and cybersecurity dossiers. He was “Big Data Lead Scientist” at the European Commission's Directorate-General Joint Research Centre (JRC) for 5 years. He is Vice-Chair of the International Advisory Board of International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) and a member of International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE). He created and chaired the Earth and Space Sciences Informatics Division of the European Geosciences Union (EGU), for 5 years. He is editor-in-chief of the journal Big Earth Data and co-editor of the “AI section” of the journal Remote Sensing. He has received the Ian McHarg Medal of the EGU, the Geospatial Innovation Award of the Geospatial World Forum (GWF) and the Meritorious Service Medal of the IEEE Committee on Earth Observations (ICEO). He has taught at the universities of Padua and Florence, Italy, and Friedrich Schiller in Jena, Germany. He holds a master's degree in Telecommunications Engineering and a PhD in “Methods and Systems for Environmental Monitoring”.

Paolo Mazzetti

National Research Council of Italy

Paolo Mazzetti is Acting Director of CNR-IIA. He holds a degree in Electronic Engineering and a degree in Philosophy of Science. He taught “Telematics” at the University of Florence at Prato for a degree in Information Engineering for seven years. His research activities focus on the integration of information science and technologies with Earth and environmental sciences for the generation of actionable knowledge from Big Earth Data. He has more than fifteen years of experience in the design and development of infrastructures and services for geo-spatial data sharing and processing in the context of national, European (FP7, CIP, H2020, HORIZON) and global initiatives. He has been Principal Representative of Italy in the GEO Programme Board. He is the co-chair of the GEOSS Platform Operation Team (GPOT) and member of the GEOSS Infrastructure Development Task Team (GIDTT). He has been a member of the GEO Secretariat Expert Advisory Group (EAG) and of the GEO Institutions Development Implementation Board (IDIB). He is Coordinator of the LIFE NewLife4Drylands project and member of the National Working Group on Land Degradation Neutrality.

Mattia Santoro

National Research Council of Italy

Mattia Santoro is researcher at the Division of Florence of CNR-IIA. He has a Ph.D. in Methods and Technologies for Environmental Monitoring at the University of Basilicata, Italy. He obtained a degree in computer science at the University of Florence, Italy. He has been working at the Earth and Space Science Informatics Laboratory (ESSI-lab) of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) since 2007. His research interests deal with multidisciplinary interoperability, designing and developing infrastructures and services for geo-spatial resources, with particular focus on semantic discovery and environmental models interoperability. He coordinates the Geospatial Artificial Intelligence and Information Sharing (GAINS) Working Group of the CNR-IIA. He participated in several research projects and initiatives funded by EC (FP7, H2020), US NSF, and National R&I frameworks. He coordinates the design and development of the VLab framework. He is responsible for the GEO Discovery and Access Broker (GEO DAB) operational environment, and is a member of GEOSS Common Infrastructure (GCI) Operations Foundational Task GEOSS Platform Operations Team and of the GEOSS Infrastructure Development Task Team.
