With all kinds of efforts in the world to contain the COVID-19, we believe scientific communities are able to meet physically to discuss all concerned issues related to Digital Earth. The International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) is thereby calling for bids to host the 9th Digital Earth Summit in 2022 and the 13th International Symposium on Digital Earth in 2023. All interested organizations are encouraged to submit the intent and/or bid proposals of hosting the events. The closing date for all bids is 15 June, 2021.
Both ISDE Digital Earth Summit and Symposium are conference series held by ISDE, providing academic platforms for state-of-the-art discussion and in-depth dissemination of all the broad research fields of Digital Earth. The ISDE events are widely recognized as ones of the most significant conferences for scientific exchange in the fields of Digital Earth, including earth observation technology, geospatial information science, geo-data intensive research, virtual reality and visualization of Earth, Big Earth Data, Digital Economy, Citizen sensors, and Digital Earth for UN SDGs, etc. These events are excellent opportunities for scientists, decision-makers, engineers and educators to consider the latest theories, principles and frameworks of Digital Earth. In the past, the symposia and summits have been high-quality venues for promoting an expanded consensus of the Digital Earth concept, and fostering the international development of Digital Earth.
The Digital Earth Summits have previously been held in Auckland (2006), Potsdam (2008), Nessebar (2010) and Wellington (2012), Nagoya (2014), Beijing (2016), El Jadida (2018). Due to the global COVID-19 influence, the 8th Digital Earth Summit was held online with efforts by Neogeography Group (Russia) and the Department of Geoinformatics, University of Salzburg (Austria) from November 30 to December 2, 2020.
Over the past 20 years, the International Symposia on Digital Earth have previously been held in China (1999, 2009), Canada (2001, 2015), Czech Republic (2003), Japan (2005), United States (2007), Malaysia (2013), Australia (2011, 2017), and Italy (2019). The 12th International Digital Earth Symposium will be held in Salzburg, Austria on July 6-8, 2021.
