The founding ceremony of the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) and the opening ceremony of the 2021 International Forum on Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals were grandly held in Beijing, China on September 6, 2021, marking the establishment of the first international scientific research institute in the world that serves the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals through big data.

UN Secretary-General, António Guterres delivered a video speech, fully affirmed the role of CBAS, and hoped that CBAS would support the UN Global Platform and achieve the sustainable development goals. UN Under-Secretary-General, Liu Zhenmin, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNEP, Inger Andersen, and UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of UNCCD Ibrahim Thiaw also delivered video speeches, congratulating on the establishment of CBAS and the opening of the forum.
President of China, Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the ceremony and the forum. The establishment of CBAS is an important measure announced by President Xi at the 75th UN General Assembly for supporting the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals. Xi Jinping hopes all stakeholders fully participate in the CBAS and this forum to jointly implement the UN 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development Goals through big data and make contributions to building a community of a shared future for mankind.

More than 400 representatives of scientific research institutes, universities and international organizations from around 10 countries attended the ceremony.
In the following three days, the 2021 International Forum on Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals invited 9 keynote speeches, 63 sessions and more than 300 oral presentations. Nearly 800 people from 61 countries and regions participated in the forum online or on-site.
