Call for Bids to Host the 15th International Symposium on Digital Earth (2027)

The International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) is a world leading non-governmental international academic organization devoting to the development of Digital Earth technologies and the realization of Digital Earth vision in benefiting our society. ISDE is a participating organization of the Group on Earth Observations, a member of the International Science Council, and a member of Geospatial Societies of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Informational Management. ISDE is calling for bids to organize and host the 15th International Symposium on Digital Earth in 2027, hereby invites all interested organizations, institutions or universities to submit letters of intent and/or bid proposals to host the event. ISDE encourages our members, and the interested organizations or institutions, to consider this hosting opportunity, and also to disseminate this information in your communities. The final closing date for all Bids is provisionally closed on January 15, 2025.


The International Symposium on Digital Earth, a conference series held by ISDE biennially during odd-numbered years, provide academic platforms for state-of-the-art discussion and in-depth dissemination of the broad research fields of Digital Earth. The ISDE symposia are widely recognized as the most significant conferences for scientific exchange in the fields of Digital Earth, including earth observation technology, geospatial information science, geo-data intensive research, virtual reality and visualization of Earth, Big Earth Data, Digital Economy, Citizen sensors, Digital Earth for UN SDGs etc. The symposium is an excellent opportunity for scientists, decision-makers, engineers and educators to consider the latest theories, principles and frameworks of Digital Earth. In the past, the ISDE symposia have been high-quality venues for promoting an expanded consensus of the Digital Earth concept, and fostering the international development of Digital Earth.


Over the past 20 years, the ISDE symposia have been held in China (1999, 2009), Canada (2001, 2015), Czech Republic (2003), Japan (2005), United States (2007), Malaysia (2013), Australia (2011, 2017), Italy (2019), Austria (2021), and Greece (2023). The 14th International Symposium on Digital Earth will be held in Chongqing, China in April, 2024.

 

Bid proposals are required to provide complete information on the following:

Information about the Host Organization: 

- Name and Introduction to the Organisation

- Contact information (contact person and title, address, email, web site, etc.)

- Governmental/organizational supporting documents.  

- Members, staff and structure of the Local Organizing Committee


Symposium Planning:

- Proposed dates and locations

- Facilities and venue

- Expected number of delegates

- Symposium Theme and Program

- Projected financial arrangements (budget, registration fees, sponsorship fees, etc.)


The ISDE symposium hosting organisation for the bid shall be from Digital Earth related communities. A Professional Conference Organiser (PCO) could join the the bid to strengthen the bid application. All the above requested information will be considered. It would be desired to receive an expression of interest to host the conference if you would like to apply. Please send a letter of intent to ISDE Secretary General, Prof. Changlin Wang (wcl@aircas.ac.cn) before preparing your bidding proposal.

Upon the awarding of the symposium to the successful bidder, the host organization will sign a negotiated memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the ISDE Secretariat. The Announcement of the Symposium Host will be made via the ISDE website and mailing list.
