Dr. Changlin Wang is a professor at Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Previously he was with the CAS Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI); Center for Earth Observation and Digital Earth (CEODE); and Institute of Remote Sensing Applications (IRSA). Currently, he holds the positions of Secretary General of the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE), Executive Editor of the International Journal of Digital Earth (IJDE, SCI Expanded Journal, Published by Taylor & Francis), Executive Editor-in-Chief of the Big Earth Data journal (a sister journal of IJDE, open access publication by ISDE, AIR, Taylor & Francis ), and Deputy Director of the International Center on Using Space Technologies for Cultural and Natural Heritages under the Auspices of UNESCO. Since 2002, he devoted himself to the Secretariat of International Steering Committee for the International Symposium on Digital Earth, and then the International Society for Digital Earth.
In 1986, He received B.Sc Degree from Geology Department, Xinjiang Institute of Technology. He studied at the Geology Department of Leicester University, UK, and obtained Ph.D degree in 1995. He did his post-doctoral research from 1995 to 1997 at the Institute of Remote Sensing Applications, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IRSA/CAS), and then became a research scientist at the IRSA/CAS with a position of Associate Professor. In 2007, he received full professorship at the Center for Earth Observation and Digital Earth (CEODE), CAS. In 2013, IRSA and CEODE merged to the RADI, and he was with RADI till 2019.
His major research interests are radar remote sensing applications in geology and environment, remote sensing for archaeology, digital earth theories and applications. He has undertaken research works on several projects, and applied SIR-C/X-SAR, Radarsat, ERS-1/2 SAR and Envisat ASAR data in geology. He was a member of several projects funded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, National High Technology Research and Development Program, National Natural Science Foundation.
