The 15th ISDE International Lectures, with the theme of “Environmental Compliance: Measuring the Unmeasurable”, took place on 14th April, 2025. Prof. Thomas Blaschke, Head of the Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS, University of Salzburg, Austria, explored the correlation between deforestation and legislation, and showcased commercial and non-commercial initiatives that contribute science-based information to legislations and initiatives that particularly aim to reducing biodiversity loss and global deforestation.

Short Bio of Invited Speaker:
Thomas Blaschke
University of Salzburg, Austria
Prof. Thomas Blaschke is Head of the Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS at the University of Salzburg, Austria, and Vice President of the Association for Geoinformatics. Prof. Blaschke has received numerous prestigious scholarships, research grants, and excellence awards. At the University of Salzburg, he has supervised over 35 doctoral students as a primary advisor. With an extensive academic career, Prof. Blaschke has held positions as lecturer, senior lecturer, and professor at institutions across Germany, the UK, and Austria, and has been a visiting professor at leading universities worldwide, including the University of South Carolina, USA. Recognized as a “Highly Cited Researcher” (Clarivate) multiple times, his scholarly impact is reflected in over 450 publications, including 17 authored or edited books, and an h-index of 93. Among his many honors is the 1995 Christian Doppler Prize. He was elected as a full member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and has served on the European Space Agency (ESA) Earth Observation Advisory Committee.
