ISDE President and Honorary President invited to give speeches at 2023 GSF

From 20 to 23 May, 2023, the 2023 Greater Bay Area Science Forum (GSF) took place in Guangzhou, China. ISDE President Alessandro Annoni and Honorary President Huadong Guo were invited to attend the Forum. With the theme of “Bring together wisdom, Bring together the world”, the forum attracted over hundreds of delegations including policy makers, academician, Nobel Prize winners, multi-disciplinary scientists, entrepreneurs and the like.

ISDE President Alessandro Annoni delivered welcoming remarks at the Opening Ceremony of 2023 GSF


At the opening ceremony on 21 May, 2023, ISDE President Alessandro Annoni was invited to give welcoming remarks. Annoni captivated the audience with his speech by elucidating the Digital Earth Vision and the vital role international organizations, especially geospatial organizations exemplified by International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE), play in implementing the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He spotlit the common call to actions from both the 2023 GSF and the international community at large to meet the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Forum with the mission of “Exploring the Future, Sharing Scientific Achievements”, in his opinion, is “an open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial platform for science and technology exchange and cooperation around the world”. Therefore, he expressed his enthusiasm for collaboration with the GSF series at last, stating, "In common with the Greater Bay Area Science Forum, the International Society for Digital Earth aims to explore the future, understand new technologies, advance research, share scientific knowledge and raise public awareness. So there are many reasons to work together. We look forward to having more partnerships with the science communities of the Great Bay Area."

Alessandro Annoni delivered a keynote speech at the Session on Information and Communications


On 22 May, Annoni was invited to deliver a keynote speech at the Session on Information and Communications of "Exploring Futuristic Information Technologies, Igniting the Future of Communications" with the title of "Technology Contribution to Sustainable Development - The Case of Digital Earth". In his speech, Annoni analyzed the role of science and technology, focusing on the impact of digital transformation in the realms of digital analytics, digital business models, and digital channels. He emphasized particular interest in digital twins and the burgeoning metaverse in the game industry and concluded his address by highlighting the importance of leveraging existing technologies for modeling, simulation, communication, and engagement, while stressing the need for responsible action, knowledge sharing, and raising public awareness. Notably, he underscored the significance of a "For-All" perspective for children and international organizations in fostering sustainable development worldwide.

ISDE Honorary President Huadong Guo delivered a keynote speech at the Session on the High Quality Development of the Belt and Road Initiative


On the same day, Chinese Academy of Sciences academician Huadong Guo who is the ISDE Honorary President and Director General of International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) was invited to deliver a keynote speech at the Session on the High Quality Development of the Belt and Road Initiative. Academician Guo’s speech is entitled “The Construction of the Digital Belt And Road (DBAR)”, which commenced with the link to the digital replica of the ancient Silk Road and the Marine Silk Road, and revolved around the origin, development, major achievements and international influence of the “Digital Belt And Road (DBAR)” International Scientific Program within the framework of the "Belt and Road Initiative" and the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind. He also attached great importance to the irreplaceable Earth observation and Big Earth Data in tackling the existing challenges and risks of the “Belt and Road Initiative”. Based on his exact focus on the leading role "Digital Belt And Road" has been playing in the coordinated and sustainable development which is in line with the mission of the CBAS, he at last listed a great number of possible solutions to the current impediments in the realization of SDGs, and appealed to the audience and all citizens for joint efforts to build the Digital Belt and Road.
