The 2nd ISDE Academic Salon Held at Capital Normal University in Beijing

On December 14, 2023, the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) held the second academic salon in the Capital Normal University, Beijing, China. Following an enthusiastic reception from the audience, the theme of "Aligning corporate and international strategies for disaster risk reduction" was thoroughly explored. Discussions were actively participated in by participants from University of Science and Technology Beijing and Capital Normal University.

This event invited Prof. Cheryl Desha from Griffith University, Australia. She is also a Council Member of ISDE through the Australia Chapter and co-chair of Working Group 2 – Industry. She gave an informative presentation by discussing the advantages of coordinating corporate and international disaster risk reduction initiatives using examples from Australia. She demonstrated the ten-year process of pursuing an applied research agenda that is multi-sectoral and end-user driven, including the collaboration through ISDE, the formation of "Queensland Disaster Research Alliance", and so on. She ended by heated discussions with students.

On November 20, 2023, the ISDE hosted its first academic salon which was a success with positive feedback. The second salon, organized by ISDE in collaboration with the College of Resource Environment and Tourism, Capital Normal University, is a significant step toward expanding collaboration with universities and innovating academic events.
