The 11th ISDE International Lectures

ISDE International Lectures, organized by the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) are a series of online events which feature invited lectures by well-known international experts in the field of Digital Earth. Its purpose is to bring international scholars in the relevant research fields of Digital Earth together to exchange academic perspectives, share research experience, and disseminate the most cutting-edge and authoritative theories and technologies. The event will be held every two months.

The 11th ISDE International Lectures, with the theme of “Innovative Perspectives and Practical Experience of Publishing Scientific Papers in Top Journals”, will invite two speakers to share their extensive scientific research experience, and provide unique insights into academic writing and guidance on publishing compelling papers in top-tier journals.

Short Bio of Invited Speakers:

Baojing GU

Zhejiang University, China

Baojing Gu is a professor of sustainability at Zhejiang University, China. He was trained as an ecologist with an emphasis on biogeochemical nitrogen cycling analysis and economics from Zhejiang University in China and the University of Alberta and McGill University in Canada. He is currently the Executive Editor-in-Chief of Earth Critical Zone, Editor of The Innovation and Associated Editor of Earth’s Future. He serves as the deputy director of East Asia Center of International Nitrogen Initiative (INI). He is co-leading the cost and benefit analyses of global nitrogen use under the framework of International Nitrogen Management System (INMS) to improve our understanding on the interactions between human and the nitrogen cycles. He is leading several research projects on SDGs and climate change, including National Key R&D Program, China-Austria Government Cooperation Project, National Distinguished Youth Fund Project, and NSFC-UNEP International Cooperation Key Project. He has published over 120 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including Science, Nature, The innovation, etc. He was the international champion of the 2023 Frontiers Planet Prize.

Shuli CHEN

University of Arizona, USA

Shuli Chen is a Ph.D candidate in the department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Arizona, working with Prof. Scott Saleska. Her research focuses on understanding the biogeography of Amazon forest drought resilience and vulnerability, combining insights from environmental resource and trait-based ecology to inform remote sensing strategies for investigating ecosystem responses. She has published articles in esteemed peer-reviewed journals, including Nature, New Phytologist, and TRGS etc. During her Ph.D, she has been awarded several prestigious grants, including the NASA Future Investigators in NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology (FINESST) fellowship and the University of Arizona Galileo Circle Scholarship. Chen earned her bachelor's degree from the School of Geography and Planning at Sun Yat-sen University and pursued a master's degree in the Faculty of Geographical Science at Beijing Normal University, where she received the National Scholarship and first prize in the CPGIS Student Paper Competition, among other accolades.
