ISDE Organized Special Session at 9ICCGIS

The 9th International Conference on Cartography and GIS (9ICCGIS) brought together leading experts, researchers, and practitioners from around the globe to Nessebar, Bulgaria, from 17 to 21 June 2024. This pivotal event, endorsed by the International Cartographic Association (ICA) and organized by Bulgarian Cartographic Association (BCA), and University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (UACEG), Bulgaria with the support of Bulgarian Science Fund and Municipality of Nessebar, served as a melting pot of innovative ideas and discussions on the future of cartography and geographic information systems.

On 17 June, during the opening ceremony, Dr. Alessandro Annoni, ISDE President, delivered a greeting remark and captivated the audience with his keynote on "Exploring Digital Earth and the Metaverse." He pointed out that the integration of Digital Earth and the metaverse presents unprecedented opportunities for innovation in geospatial technologies.

The following day, the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) organized a special plenary session titled "Digital Earth: Geospatial Sources, Technologies, and Visualization." Chaired by Dr. Annoni, the session featured notable presentations including:

1:Prof. Changlin Wang, Secretary-General of ISDE, discussed “ISDE: An International Collaboration Platform,” emphasizing the importance of global cooperation in advancing geospatial science.

2:Prof. David Wortley from the International Society of Digital Medicine highlighted the role of "Digital Twins and Disaster Risk Reduction" in enhancing disaster preparedness and response.

3:Dr. Adrian Yordanov from UACEG, Bulgaria, presented on "Velocity Monitoring Using Satellite SAR Images," showcasing cutting-edge techniques in satellite imagery analysis.

4:Dr. Zdeněk Stachoň from Masaryk University, Czech Republic, shared insights on "Spatial Data Visualization in Collaborative iVR," exploring innovative methods in interactive virtual reality.
